September Events Around Town

Council Bluffs Airport Open House

When: September 1st from 8AM -2PM
Cost: Free - $25.00

Fill your belly with breakfast from the Pancake Man from 8-11AM. (adults $6, children under 12 $3.50) There will be 20 minute airplane rides for $25.00 and other free activities going on as well.



Applegrass Blue Grass Festival at Ditmars Orchard 

When: September 1st and 2nd from 2 PM - 10 PM 
Cost: $10/Adult and Children under 12 Free ($15 for a 2-Day Pass)

Bring the family for a fun ole' time! From 2-5PM there will be children's activities including wagon rides, bouncy house, games, crafts and music. Knee slapping jams run from 5-10PM each night. Pack up the lawn chairs and bug spray for a night under the stars! Play some tunes yourself? Bring your acoustic instrument and participate in an open jam hosted by Great Plains Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association. There will be concessions and vendors on site as well.

Bass Pro Labor Day Festival

When: September 1st and 2nd
Cost: Free

There is lots of fun to be had at Bass Pro on Labor Day weekend!  Each day during the festival you will have the chance to win 1 of 3 $25 Bass Pro Shops Gift Cards. From 12 PM - 5 PM the following activities will be taking place:

  • “Net a Fish” pond- Net a Fake fish and have a chance to receive a prize 
  • Casting buckets
  • Metal detector Treasure Hunt 
  • Bean Bag Toss 
  • Prize Wheel: Kiddos can get a card punched at each activity for a chance to spin the wheel! 
Munch on Free Hot Dogs from 1-3PM each day and get a Free Face Painting from 1-4PM. When your face is all done up, check out the Apparel Fashion Show from 2-4PM that features apparel, footwear, accessories If you are wanting to do some learning check out the following seminars:

Saturday 1PM: Smokin’ & Grillin’ 
Saturday 3PM: Power vs. Finesse Fishing, tackle and tactics
Sunday 1PM: Dutch Oven Cooking Techniques

Field of Flight: Hot Air Balloon Festival at Ditmars Orchard

When: September 7th-9th
Cost: $5.00/Car - $1.00/Person

On Friday, Mac and the Bulldogs will kick things off at 5PM, the flight will be at 5:45PM, and  the glow will be at 7:45PM. On Saturday there will be a flight at daybreak, live music by Travelin' Life at 5PM, flight at 5:45PM, and glow at 7:45PM. It will all end on Sunday with a flight at daybreak. Head out to catch some breath taking photos and fun for the whole family! 



Sounds of Fall at Wildlife Safari

When: September 8th
Cost: Child (3-11) $4.50, Adult (12 & over) $6.50, Senior (65 & over) $5.50 + $1.00 off with Henry Doorly Zoo Membership

Stop by from 11AM - 3 PM and have fun learning to identify animals by their sounds, tracks and the evidence they leave behind at Wildlife Safari Park.You will also be able to touch and feel animal artifacts, enjoy some crafts and other special activities at Wolf Woods.


Omaha Healthy Family Fair at Omaha Children's Museum

When: September 15th from 8AM - 10AM
Cost: Free  

Join Methodist Health System for valuable information on getting and keeping your family health. Get information on the Parent Savvy program and other services as well as demos of kids yoga, dance studios and more! There will even be a rock climbing wall in the museum's parking lot and healthy snacks from Whole Foods Market.



KinderNature: Magical Monarchs at Hitchcock Nature Center

When: September 16th from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Cost: $4.00/Child (ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult)

Be dazzled with the magic behind the monarch life cycle and long migration! KinderNature is a preschool program designed for children ages 3-5 years and their mommy or daddy. There will be hands-on learning, a story, craft, and outdoor exploration.

Family Fiesta at Henry Doorly Zoo

When: September 23rd
Cost: Free with Henry Doorly Zoo Membership

From 12PM-5PM there will be soccer mascots, a live mariachi band, face painting and more on hand for family fiesta fun at the zoo!
