Making a Difference with Fruit Snacks #Dole4Kids

Growing up, my mom always had breakfast greeting us in the kitchen, lunches packed for school, and dinner on the table at night. You may think, so, isn't that pretty normal? It was for me, but their is a rising number of kids that aren't getting what they need to thrive, including nutrition. For a variety of reasons, children show up hungry at school in the morning and scarfing down lunches in case dinner isn't on the menu that night. Right here in our community we are seeing more children in need and that makes me want to invite them all over to my house for grilled cheese and Dole Fruit Bowls. However, my house is fairly small so I helped out by donating some Healthy Snacks for Kids from Dole.

I headed to Walmart to pick up my healthy snacks for kids and you can check out my fruit snacks shopping trip in my Google+ Album!

Our local Boys & Girls Club was the perfect place do that! The Boys & Girls Club sees hundreds of kids throughout the school year and over the summer.  A safe place to hang out, learn, and get a nutritious is what is found inside the doors of the club. A couple of years ago, at Christmas time, I dropped off a few bags of toys that I got at a great price. The kids were thrilled and so appreciative. Ever since, the Boys & Girls Club has had a special place in my heart.

My daughter is a Girl Scout, and each year her troop shops for a local family at Thanksgiving time to provide them with everything they need for a turkey dinner, as well as a gift card for extras. The girls love being able to give back locally so I told them about Champions for Kids and they wanted to help too! The girls used their hard earned fundraising money and matched my donation! We were able to donate almost $100 worth of Dole Fruit Bowls and Dole Squish'ems to the Boys and Girls Club!!

Unfortunately they were closed the week we went to drop of our donations. It's almost school time and they take a week to get ready for the Fall. Thankfully a staff member saw us outside and graciously accepted our donation!

Champions for Kids has set out on a mission to make sure children have the resources they need to live happy and well cared for lives. You can get involved by collecting Back to School Snacks for kids in your community! Simply gather others in your town to collect healthy snacks for kids, like Dole Fruit Bowls and Dole Squish'ems. Then, donate the snacks locally to help children heading back to school! Plus, if you donate and report your donation during the month of August, Dole will be matching donations, up to 1,000 Dole Squish'ems

  1. What a great program! I love getting the kids involved in projects like this. My son is a Cub Scout and I'm their Cubmaster so this is a great service project for them! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Such an excellent program, especially that children can be a part of helping others. I think that is a very important part of raising children who will one day contribute positively to their community!

  3. That's such a great program! Where I used to live, their last campaign was for those little hotdogs in a can. I had to bite my tongue as my initial 'huh, you're kidding, right?' opinion was not welcome. It's awesome that you did this!
