This week, we are going to Get To Know Wendy Maloney: Mom, Wife, and Owner of Maloney's Irish Pub! I've known Wendy since junior high and she has become an amazing mom to her 4 1/2 year old son, an incredible wife to a very busy guy, runs one of the best bars in the Omaha Metro, and she's one darn cool lady that is also a maid to all. Check out her beautiful family in these photos they shot in October. Pretty good considering there was a 4 year old involved don't ya think?
What made you want to open Maloney's Irish Pub?
I have been bartending since I was 21. I went to college for a semester and got myself into debt and realized that even at 20-something, I still had no idea what I wanted to get a degree in. Plus, I was making as much money bartending as my friends who had degrees were in their careers except, I was having way more fun. I figured that if I wasn't going to finish college that I better figure something out! That's when I decided to save my money and buy a bar. The rest is history!
What will Maloney's Irish Pub be offering in 2015?
Things are in a constant state of change around here but here's what I can tell you about 2015 at Maloney's. Every St. Patricks Day since I bought the place in 2008 has been a record breaker. I expect this year to be no different. We have cover bands booked in the tent the weekend of March 13 & 14 and for the main event on Tuesday, March 17th we have an Irish band, green beer, personalized glassware etching, free goodies from tons of vendors, free green pancakes from 8-10 a.m. corned beef and cabbage and much more. All in the comfort of our heated outdoor tent. The best part is, we never charge a cover on St. Pats! We always have trivia on Tuesdays at 8pm and that is super fun and wildly popular! We will also have sand volleyball starting in the beginning of April and other fun events throughout the year. Sign up for volleyball online at MaloneysOmaha.com!
If Maloney's Irish Pub had a tagline, what would it be?
As far as a tag line goes, it seems to change. One of my bartenders recently referred to it as a 5 Star Dive Bar. I'm not sure if that's taken or not, but I like it!
Besides Maloney's, what are your favorite bars and pubs to visit in the area?
As far as my favorite bars in the area besides Maloneys, I wouldn't really have any idea. When I get out of the house, I'm usually here.
What is your favorite drink?
My favorite drink is a CoronaRita (a margarita with a corona dumped in it).
What is one thing you wish the Omaha Metro Area had?
The one thing I wish the Omaha area had is more entertainment venues in parts of town other than downtown. Downtown is such a pain sometimes. It would be nice to have something further west to host circuses, concerts etc.
